“Is it really helpful to know exactly how personalization algorithms work… Maybe it would be more practical to have algorithms that would be on our side and in our control — personal algorithms, or algorithmic angels if you will (for a lack of a better word). They’d be a combination of an aid, guardian and assistant, helping us out in various digital and physical environments.”

FutureSelf - my personal future simulation article in Futures Journal 2010

My full-length article “FutureSelf: Emerging digitized life patterns and a personal future simulation system” was just published in acknowledged Futures, The journal of policy, planning and futures studies (Volume 42, Issue 9, November 2010, Pages 981-994). The article concentrates on the concept and design framework of a personal future simulation system that enables the creation of personal micro-future scenarios and augmented futures using personal digital data.

The Abstract

Unique information sources, available and accessible in digital networked environments, can be used as a data set for the extrapolation of an individual’s potential futures. Based on an interactive analysis process, a carefully crafted system using artificial intelligence, data mining processes and behavior adaptive features can generate contextualized interactive personal future simulations in the form of interconnected micro-future scenarios. Micro-future scenarios provide context-sensitive information, alternative future paths and recommendations based on an individual’s personal circumstances and her environment. The emerging future narrative can be delivered effectively by using different communication channels and methods in digital environments. The system aims to enhance an individual’s awareness of the consequences of her existence by connecting her personal and social actions to a wider social, cultural, political, economical and ecological context.

Concept and social media strategy for Sitra's Public Leadership & Management Programme 2010

In the project I studied and designed new creative uses of social media that would develop and enhance leadership and management practices and thinking in public sector.

New leadership – both in theory and practice – is developed together with leaders, managers, co-workers, colleagues and various experts.

Through a synaptic communication network in digital environments and social media the Public Leadership & Management Programme can enable new forms of collaboration and thus support significantly the development of new management and communication practices.

In general, I propose that the program’s proactive presence in social media enables the creation of collectively constructed narrative that describes a new, emergent paradigm of leadership and management in public sector.

Signaali game concept and prototype 2001-2003

A concept of an explorative web-based, story-oriented problem solving game.

The player is trying to get in touch with an extraterrestrial life form which is capable of living inside the networked virtual environments. At the same time the alien is trying to get in control of the whole humanity and planet Earth.
